This past week, the Bombers played their final 2 games of the regular season against the Humboldt Broncos. In the first game on Friday at the Elgar Petersen Arena, both teams came out with very tight defense and good offensive opportunities. No teams scored in the first 10 minutes, but eventually it was the Humboldt Broncos who opened up the game to take the lead a 1-0 and get the only goal in the first. For the second period, the Bombers answered back quickly with an early goal from Jerome Gilbert to tie it 1-1. Humboldt was able to find the back of the net again in the second to take the 2-1 lead, but yet again the Bombers answered back with a goal from Alexi Sylvestre to tie up game 2-2. It was all tied up going into the third and the Bombers seemed to have the right momentum but unfortunately, they just couldn’t seem to get anything going. The Broncos scored 4 unanswered goals in the third to take the lead and the game 6-2 over the Bombers.

The Bombers outshot the Broncos 39 to 30. Harmon Laser-Hume stopped 24/30 shots. The Bombers went 1/5 on the power play and stopped the Broncos 3/5 times on the penalty kill.

For the second game on Saturday night, the Bombers came out strong in the first, getting the periods lone goal, coming from Anthony Piccininno to go up 1-0. In the second period, it was a hard fought battle with both teams getting great looks to score and playing tight defense. The Broncos got the lone goal of the period at the 16:47 mark to tie up the game 1-1. All tied up going into the third again, the Bombers were looking to come out strong, but it was Humboldt who stricked first, grabbing a goal in the first minute of the period, short handed, to go up 2-1. The Bombers fought back but still couldn’t find the back of the net. The Broncos scored 2 more times in the third to go up 4-1 and win the game.

The Broncos outshot the Bombers 37 to 36. Kenneth Marquart stopped 33/36 shots. The Bombers went 1/5 on the power play and stopped the Broncos all 3 times on the penalty kill.

The Bombers finished off the season 1st place in the SJHL with a record of 44-9-2-1 and 91 Points.
