MIKE REAGAN – HEAD COACH & GENERAL MANAGER
It was an up and down 2013-14 season for Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan. Injures and player expectations not being met, meant the team focus had to change, but the main goal for Reagan is always the same, “To win a championship.”
When things went awry before the SJHL Trade Deadline, Reagan decided to make some changes to the roster that would mold the team for the 2014-15 season and put them as an early favorite for a deep playoff run.
Despite the changes which saw the team trade away their all star number one goalie and the team’ top four leading scorers, the end of the season and first round of the playoffs saw the team gain some valuable experience and showed the fans of Flin Flon that the scope of the team has changed.
This season Reagan saw that a shift to a hard working, hard to play against team was needed and so he went out and found players, to build on the existing returnees, to that fit that mold.
Reagan took over the coaching duties after a dismal 2006-07 season, were the Bombers finished with an 18-38-0-2 record, their sixth straight season of fewer than 20 wins. That first season Mike turned the team back into a playoff contender, finishing with a 33-21-4 record, a 32 point improvement.
He’s compiled a 212-159-27 record over his seven seasons as Coach and has taken the club to the Conference Finals three times including both of his first two seasons. In four of his seven years in the playoffs, the Bombers bowed out to the eventual SJHL Champions.
The team is on the cusp of a championship. He has an excellent eye for recruitment, having signed or traded for scholarship caliber players. Since he took over he had over 20+ players go onto NCAA or Canadian College/University hockey and five attend NHL camps, the most recent being Andrew Johnston who signed with the Philadelphia Flyers and Carsen Chubak who signed with the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL.
Mike suited up for his hometown Bombers for four season and sits in the top five in most offensive categories including 4th in all time points and 1st in games played. After junior, Reagan accepted a full scholarship and played for four seasons compiling 81 points in 132 games with the Sacred Heart Pioneers, where he has sent two players to this past season on scholarships.
Now back in Flin Flon after stints in pro hockey, his passion for the game, and especially the Bombers, is what helps him recruit players on his way to his ultimate goal, to build a championship.
GARRY CHILDERHOSE – ASSISTANT COACH & ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER
Having accepted the position as Assistant Coach in 2014, Gary Childerhose (Altona, MB) brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of SJHL hockey to the coaching staff.
Garry played three seasons with the Mustangs finishing up in 2009-10 with 92 points (32g, 60a) and 196 penalty minutes over 131 games. After his final season with Melfort, Childerhose attended and completed a four collegiate career at SUNY-Geneseo, a Division III program in the NCAA located in New York State.
“Garry brings a lot of enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan. “He’s only a year away from finishing up his playing career which is a valuable asset to the team.”

CHRIS BORTIS – ASSISTANT COACH
When the team lost their assistant coach during the 2013-14 season, the Flin Flon Bombers didn’t have to turn too far for a temporary replacement when Chris Bortis (Flin Flon, MB) stepped in to fill the role and will remain with the club in the same capacity for the 2014-15 season.
Bortis moved back to his hometown and took a more hands on job with the team after his role of Manitoba Scout while living in Brandon, MB. He helps out behind the bench and in personnel changes when his day job, an electrician at Hudbay, permits him.
“He’s a great hockey guy and a good guy to bounce stuff off of,” commented Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan. “Bort has been around hockey for a long time and he has some great ideas and he’s focused on the same goal as we are.”
Along with his behind the scene success, Bortis is a two time Hockey Manitoba Cup champion and is the reigning Walt Cunningham Labour Day Classic winner.
