The Flin Flon Bombers regular season kicks off on Friday, September 24th, when the Bombers travel to Melfort. The action continues Saturday night when Melfort comes to town for the Bombers home opener.

The last time these two teams met was back on November 10th, 2020, when the Mustangs spoiled the Bombers home opener with an 8-3 win. Since the 2018-19 season, the Bombers record against the Mustangs is 5-6-3.

Mustangs starting goaltender, Joel Favreau, returns for his 2nd season after putting up a 1.50 GAA & .944 SV% in 2 games last season. He enters this season as a strong candidate for SJHL Goaltender of the Year.

Lucas Ochitwa, newly acquired Hayden Tuba and Kevin Minnoch, are expected to eat up a lot of minutes on the backend. Ochitwa produced 14 points and 135 penalty minutes back in 2019-20. Tuba and Minnoch were acquired shortly before the preseason.

Coletyn Boyarski finished third in SJHL preseason scoring with 8 points in 6 games while Ben Tkachuk enters this season as one of the top 2002 born forwards in the SJHL. Fans should expect 20 year old forward Curtis Hammond to be a top scorer for the Mustangs this season after being acquired from the Coquitlam Express of the BCHL less than a month ago.

Mustangs Head Coach & General Manager, Trevor Blevins, signed a 3 year extension this past August. Blevins has been the Head Coach & General Manager for Melfort since 2013.
