Bombers Advance to the Semi-Finals – Round 1 Recap vs. the Kindersley Klippers

The Flin Flin Bombers advance to the semi-finals of the 2023/24 SJHL Playoffs after beating the Kindersley Klippers 4-0 in a 7 game series.

The series started with Games 1 and 2 at the Whitney Forum with the Flin Flon Bombers having home ice advantage. In these games the Bombers showed why they are the #1 team, beating the Klippers in Game 1, 4-0 and in Game 2, 8-0. Jacob Vockler and Alexi Sylvestre led the charge for the Bombers offensively, having goals in both games. In game 2 though, is where they really put on a show with Sylvestre grabbing a first period hat trick along with an assist to get 4 points on the night and Vockler had himself a 3 point game with 2 goals and 1 assist as well. In between the pipes for the Bombers for the first two games was Harmon Laser-Hume and he played about as good as you can get, grabbing back to back shutouts and stopping 58 totals shots. The Bombers specialty teams also made a huge difference in the first  two games with them going 4/8 on the power play and stopping the Klippers all 10 times on the penalty kill.

The Bomber then headed to Kindersley for Games 3 and 4 at the West Central Events Centre. The Klippers definitely improved their play in front of their home crowd but it just wasn’t enough for the Bombers high powered offense, strong back end and elite goaltending. The Bomber won Game 3, 5-2 and just snuck out a win in Game 4, winning 2-1. This time, it was Justin Lies and Carter Anderson who stepped it up for the Bombers, being the main point getters for the final two games of the series. Both Lies and Anderson had 4 points between the 2 games, both grabbing 2 goals and 2 assists each. Harmon Laser Hume yet again had unbelievable performances stopping 59/62 shots through the final two games and overall in the series stopped 117/120 shots. The Bombers did start to struggle on the power play in Games 3 and 4, going 1/9 but stopped the Klippers 8/10 times on the penalty kill.

Overall, it was a great series for the Bombers and it definitely gave them the momentum and confidence they need for going into the next round. The Bombers now move on to the Semi-Finals where they will either faceoff against the Battlefords Northstars or the Weyburn Redwings.
