The Flin Flon Bombers season officially came to an end last week and so did the SJHL careers of eight Bombers. Every season the Bombers pay farewell to their overage players (20 year olds) as they move onto professional hockey or university. This season the Bombers pay farewell to 8 Bombers, Billy Klymchuk, Hayden Clayton, Zach Huber, Chase Haygarth, Easton Haygarth, Reid Robertson, Ryder Richmond and captain Matt Flodell.

The last overage player on the roster to salute is team captain Matt Flodell.

Flodell was drafted in the 5th round of the 2015 SJHL Draft and signed with the Bombers in the summer of 2018 after playing 2 seasons with the Battlefords Stars U18 program. In 86 career regular season games with the Stars, Matt produced 39 points (16g, 23a) along with 144 penalty minutes. During the 2017-18 season, Flodell appeared in 8 games with the Bombers as an affiliate player and chipped in with 1 goal and 1 assist.

In his first full season with the Bombers, Matt appeared in 43 regular season games and put up 1 goal and 4 assists. Flodell was named an alternate captain for the 2019-20 season and he produced 13 points (6g, 7a) in 43 regular season games. At the conclusion of the season, Flodell was given the Bombers Hardest Worker Award. In the shortened 2020-21 season, Flodell was held pointless.

“Matt plays the game the right way and brings energy and a physical presence every shift. What I respect the most about his game is, he’s willing to do whatever is asked of him. He’s a very versatile player that can play both center and wing. You can put him anywhere in your lineup. Matt will give you everything he’s got. He leads by example and has the respect of the entire team.” – Mike Reagan, Bombers Head Coach & GM

Flodell is currently pursuing an opportunity to continue his career at the college ranks.

The Flin Flon Bombers wish Matt Flodell great success in the future whether its professional hockey or university. The Bombers are proud to have had Matt a part of our organization!
