Bombers down Millionares-Hawks-Stangs

By Adam Ricard- Flin Flon Bombers

BOMBERS STRONG START TO 2019

Saying that the Flin Flon Bombers have started 2019 off strong might be a bit of an understatement.

Winning 5 of 6 in the month of January, knocking off La Ronge, Nipawin, Melville, and Melfort twice, the Flin Flon Bombers will get the opportunity for redemption in Yorkton, who handed Flin Flon their only loss of 2019.

New Comer’s Gabriel Waked and Cade Kowalski have shown immediate help, as Waked earned his first SJHL victory against the Stangs, and Kowalski netted a goal and two helpers.

The Maroon and White will travel to Melville to start a 3 games in 3 night’s road trip this Friday. They will hit Yorkton on Saturday night for the much anticipated rematch against the Terriers. Then on Sunday they will head back to Melville for the final matchup on this road trip.

Veteran Defenseman Isaac Jackson was awarded the SJHL’s defenseman of the week honors. 1998 D Isaac Jackson (Warman SK) helped contribute to three straight Bomber victories this past week, all against tough inter-divisional foes.  On Saturday, Jackson helped set up the game winning goal to break a 4-4 tie against Melfort as the Bombers completed a weekend sweep of Melfort.  On Friday, Jackson scored a third period as part of a 5-3 win. Earlier in the week, the Bombers beat Nipawin 4-1 and Jackson had an assist in that game as well.  For the season, Jackson has 4-goals and 16-assists in 34-games. Runner-up: Cody Spagrud, Battlefords.

Rookie Goalie Jacob Delorme also got the nod for the DirectWest SJHL Rookie of the Week award. 2000 G Jacob Delorme (Drummondville PQ) backstopped the Bombers to a pair of wins against formidable competition this past week, starting with a 27-save effort against the league leading Nipawin Hawks as he allowed just one goal. He played again on Friday in Melfort and was good on 39-of-42 shots as the Bombers won 5-3. Delorme has played very well in limited action this season and has been exceptional in January by allowing just six goals over four starts. For the year, he’s 9-and-3 with a 2.87-GAA and .913-SPCT. Runner-up: Brodie Girod, Nipawin Hawks.

The Bombers will be back on home ice again on January 25 & 26 to host the Battlefords Stars, and will finish January in Nipawin for a key game against the Hawks on January 29.
