Bombers Score Big on Deadline Day

By Adam Ricard- Flin Flon Bombers

BOMBER ADD MAJOR JUNIOR NETMINDER, ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, AND YOUNG D-MAN

Head Coach and GM of the Flin Flon Bombers Mike Reagan was active on the January 10th CJHL trade deadline, swinging a deal for 19 year old goalie Gabriel Waked, who was recently released from the QMJHL’s Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

The deal saw Jessie Young’s rights dealt to the Granby Inouks of the QJAAAHL for Waked.

Waked (St-Bruno-de-Montarville, QC), has a total of 9 games in the QMJHL, while playing in 16 games for the Inouk, he had a 2.26 GAA and an impressive .919 SVS%.

In the 16 games with the Inouk, Waked compiled 4 shutouts, and with the Armada, he had a single shutout.

Flin Flon also dealt 20 year old net minder Pierce Diamond to the Estevan Bruins in exchange for 17 year old defenseman Jack Michell.

Michell (Saskatoon, SK), already has 34 junior a games as a 17 year old, and has 8 points. In AAA with the Saskatoon Contacts, he had 20 points in 44 games as a 16 year old.

Here is what Mike Reagan had to say about the deadline moves;

On the Cade Kowalski deal:

‘’I think we got the best player available at the deadline in Kowalski, we feel that adding him has made our top 3 lines very dangerous offensively and that we have a great 4th line. Everyone up front is where they should be and guys don’t have to play roles that they aren’t accustomed to. Kowalski not only brings skill, scoring and playmaking ability to our lineup but character. He’s a great guy and will add to an already positive locker room. ‘’
On the Gabriel Waked deal:

‘’Waked brings us major junior experience in goal which we see some of the best goalies in our league having that. We like that he’s 6’0 and has a year of junior experience under his belt. We think that we got a great one two punch. ‘’

On the Jack Michell deal:

‘’Jack was a very good midget AAA player and feel that his upside is huge. We have had a few 17 year olds blossom from the beginning of the year to the end and we feel that Jack is going to be a very good player for us. He instantly becomes are 3rd highest goal scorer on the point. ‘’
