Flin Flon Local and Bomber Forward, Justin Lies, Commits to MRU (U Sports)

The Flin Flon Bombers are happy to announce that Flin Flon Local and Bomber Forward, Justin Lies, has committed to extend his hockey and academic career at Mount Royal University in Calgary (U Sports).

Born and raised in Flin Flon, Lies played peewee and minor hockey for his hometown. In 2015, Lies, made the Norman Wolves U15 AAA out of Thompson, Manitoba, where he played for 2 seasons, tallying 40 goals and 23 assists in 38 games played. Following his time with the Wolves, his skill landed him a spot on the Rink Hockey Academy U16 Team out of Winnipeg, Manitoba for the 2018/19 season. In one season, Lies put up 17 goals and 16 assists for a total of 33 points in 38 games. In 2019, Lies was selected with the 56th overall pick in the third round by the Vancouver Giants in the WHL Bantam Draft.

From 2019 to 2022, Lies played in 132 games for the Vancouver Giants. During his time with the Giants, he put up 13 goals, 20 assists for a total of 33 points. Last season, Lies was traded to the Saskatoon Blades, where he had his most successful season in his WHL career. Throughout the 2022/23 regular season and playoffs, Lies scored 12 goals and tallied 15 assists for 27 points in 71 games with the Blades.

This past season, Lies decided to return home to finish his junior career alongside his brother and had an outstanding season. During the Bombers historic 44-9-2-1 season, he finished 4thoverall in points in the SJHL and 2nd overall in goals, grabbing 41 goals and 35 assists for 76 points. Lies was also named a Finalist for SJHL Forward of the Year, along with getting 5 Bomber Awards. Not only was Lies an exceptional player on the ice but a great person and leader off the ice.

The Mount Royal Cougars finished off this past season with a 26-12-0 record and finished tied for 2nd place in their conference at the end of the regular season. Lies will join Bomber teammate, Harmon Laser-Hume, who also just committed to Mount Royal.
