By Adam Ricard- Flin Flon Bombers

A trio of Bomber Alumni will continue their hockey journeys after receiving scholarships for next season.

Bomber Captain Ben Lanfermann has committed to play for the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings for the 2018-19 season.

The Paradise Hill, Sask. native played 131 games on the Bomber blue line, tallying 48 points, including 33 in his final year.

“I’m just very happy to see Benny continue his hockey career” said Mike Reagan, Flin Flon Bombers Head Coach & GM.

“I think he will fit into Augustanas style of play very nicely. Ben had other options and I’m glad he found a good fit.”

Goaltender Brendan Newton will be heading to Wisconsin as he will suit up for Northland College, which plays in the NCHA of the NCAA.

Newton, a Medicine Hat, AB product, played a total of 115 games for the Bombers over 3 seasons, and stood out in his last junior hockey game in Nipawin, stopping 53/54 shots faced, and nearly upsetting the eventual league champs.

Newton had this to say;

“I’m really excited to attend Northland College next season. I get to continue playing competitive hockey while earning a post-secondary education. Play college hockey was a goal of mine since the start of junior, and I’m happy to finally commit to a school.”

Tyler Nyman has committed to the NCAA Hamline Pipers. The Native of Circle Pines, MN, played 2 season for the Bombers. He battled through injuries through his final season, but was still able to put up 3 points in 8 playoff appearances.

Congratulations and the best of luck to Ben, Brenden, and Tyler with their hockey futures.

Once a Bomber always a Bomber.
