SETTING UP THE SJHL WILD CARD SERIES- POWERED BY CHICKEN CHEF FLIN FLON

Game one of the SJHL’s Wild Card Series kick off tonight, with the 7th place Flin Flon Bombers taking on the 10th place Weyburn Red Wings, in Weyburn.

Flin Flon, who has home ice advantage, opted to open the series on the road. This would reduce the grueling 1600km of travel to one trip.

Game two will go Sunday at the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon, and game three would go Monday in Flin Flon, if necessary.

Head-to-Head

Flin Flon own the head-to-head record, beating the Red Wings 6-3 in Weyburn, 7-4 in Flin Flon, 6-1 in Flin Flon, and rounding things out in Weyburn with an OT winner, 3-2 in their last game played.

Flin Flon has a +12 goal differential against the Wings this season.

Stats Leaders

Interestingly enough, former Red Wings captain, and current Flin Flon Bomber Cade Kowalski has seven points in total between the two clubs. In three games with Weyburn against Flin Flon, he notched 4 points, and in the last match against Weyburn as Bomber, Kowalski had 3 points, including two goals.

Weyburn Red Wings Stats Leader Head-to-Head

The final game was Bomber Goalie Gabriel Waked and the Wings Cody Leveseque.

Waked stopped 22 of the 24 shots faced, while Leveseque stopped 33 of the 36 shots faced.

Both teams have not announced who will start game one in Weyburn.

Shots on Goal

In four games, Flin Flon fired 143 shots against the Wings, while the Wings had 115 shots against Flin Flon.

Flin Flon has a +28 shot on goal differential against the Wings.

Historical Results

Flin Flon and Weyburn only see each other 4 times a season, however since the SJHL has changed the playoff format, Flin Flon and Weyburn have found themselves to be bitter rivals come playoffs.

In the 2016 season, the now viral Moose Leg incident occurred at the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon. The Bombers would use this to oust the Wings, and move onto the next round of the playoffs.

Puck Drop will be 7:30pm local time. A reminder that time change does occur this weekend in Manitoba.

Tickets are available for Sunday’s game at the Bomber office.
