SJHL SEMI-FINAL PLAYOFF PREVIEW: BOMBERS FACE BRONCOS

After the Yorkton Terriers game 7 win over the Melfort Mustangs last night, the Bombers will play the Humboldt Broncos in the SJHL Semi-Final.

The Bombers are coming off a 4-2 series win over the Battlefords North Stars where the team overcame a 2-0 deficit to win the next 4 games. Despite trailing 2-1, the Broncos rallied off 3 straight wins to eliminate the La Ronge Ice Wolves in 6 games as well.

In the Quarter-Finals against the North Stars, defenceman Rylan Thiessen and forward Gabriel Shipper led the team in scoring with 8 points each in 6 games. Shipper, Brett Wieschorster and Jacob Vockler had a team high 4 goals each in the series. Goaltender Cal Schell posted a 3.13 GAA & .901 SV%. In the final 3 games of the series, Schell had a 2.00 GAA & .943 SV%.

In the Quarter-Finals against the Ice Wolves, Ferris State (NCAA Division I) commit, Connor McGrath led the Broncos in scoring with 8 points in 6 games. Alex Morozoff had a team high 4 goals in the series win. Goaltender Rayce Ramsay posted a 3.03 GAA & .899 SV%.

During the regular season, the Broncos had 4 players in the SJHL’s top 20 in scoring. McGrath led the league with 84 points (35g, 49a) in just 56 games. Meanwhile, Alec Saretzky, Matthew Perkins and Braiden Koran put up 62, 59 and 57 points respectively. Perkins committed to Minnesota-Duluth (NCAA Division I) during the season. Goaltender Rayce Ramsay led all SJHL goaltenders in wins with 41 (SJHL record) and had a 1.98 GAA & .930 SV%. Ramsay appeared in 50 of the teams 58 regular season games.

The Bombers and Broncos split the 4 game regular season series with each team getting a win on the road. Back in November, Flin Flon travelled to Humboldt and won the weekend opener 3-2. The next night the Broncos were able to avoid the weekend sweep with a 5-4 win. A week later the same 2 teams played again, this time in Flin Flon. Humboldt opened the weekend with a 4-3 shootout victory. The Bombers would defeat the Broncos the following night 6-3.
