The SJHL announced this afternoon that three Flin Flon Bombers have been nominated for SJHL Awards.
Bombers Goaltender Matthew Kieper has been nominated for SJHL Most Valuable Player and Goaltender of the Year awards. The Winnipeg, Manitoba product is 21-1-1-1 since joining the Bombers at the beginning of November. Kieper’s 21 wins ranks 3rd among all SJHL goaltenders despite appearing in 8-10 less games than Melfort’s Kristian Coombs and Weyburn’s Angelo Zol. Kieper has a league leading 1.73 GAA & .939 SV%. Matthew has helped the Bombers improve from 10th place to 2nd place since joining the team.
Bombers Forward Koen Senft has been nominated for the Saskatchewan Player of the Year award. Senft is currently in his 2nd season with the Bombers and leads all 2006 born players in scoring with 43 points in 47 games. The former 1st round SJHL Draft pick of the Bombers was an alternate captain for Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge in December. Koen chipped in with a pair of goals to help Canada West defeat Canada East in the Bronze Medal Game.
For the 3rd straight season, Forward Joey Lies is this years Bombers nominee for the RBC Community Ambassador award. The Flin Flon, Manitoba product was the 2024 winner of the award and has continued to be a great ambassador for the community of Flin Flon. The 19-year-old has been a mentor at Ruth Betts Elementary School for the last 2 years and is also a referee in the Flin Flon Minor Hockey System. Joey helps out as a volunteer coach for Minor Hockey on a weekly basis and is also a skills coach for numerous players in Flin Flon. Joey was the winner of the “Most Popular Player” award for the Bombers last season, voted on by the fans.
