After beating the defending Canterra Seeds Cup Champions, Battlefords North Stars, 4-0 in the Semi-Finals, the Flin Flon Bombers are headed to SJHL Finals for a third year in a row, against the Melfort Mustangs!
The Bombers and Mustangs played each other four times this season with them splitting the series, both taking 2 games. Melfort without a doubt has been the toughest opponent the Bombers have faced all season, so it’s only fitting that they now face each other in the Finals. Stylistically, the Bombers and Mustangs match up very well and have a very similar play style and along with that, both have outstanding goal tending. The Mustangs have strong forwards and a good back end too, but throughout the regular season the Bombers have shown that they are stronger in that regard and proven it with their production in points and goals. That being said though, playoff hockey is always a different animal and the Bombers will have to play their best hockey of the season, just like they have been, because Melfort will be hungry and ready to jump on any mistakes the Bombers make to try and turn it into momentum. The Bombers will have a big home ice advantage at the Whitney Forum for the first two games and it will be very important for both teams as Flin Flon will want to get both in their own building and Melfort will be hoping for the split before they go back home. Regardless, the Bombers vs. Mustangs Canterra Seeds Cup will be a very intense and hard fought battle for both teams, and you can guarantee it will be some of the best hockey the SJHL has seen all season and it will only get better as the series goes on, you won’t want to miss it.
