RBC SJHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Brandson Hein, Flin Flon Bombers
1998 F Brandson Hein (Winnipeg MB) produced a league high 21-goals and 13-assists in 18-games played to start the season. Hein lit the lamp with two hat tricks (September 14th at La Ronge and October 26th versus Weyburn) and he also finished October with goals in five straight games and he scored in seven of his last eight games of October. He’s been held off the scoresheet only twice this season and has multi-point games in ten of eighteen, that includes multiple point games in six of his last seven in October. Runner-up: Justin Ball, Melfort.
SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH: Kayle Tosh, Melfort Mustangs
1998 D Kayle Tosh (Beausejour MB) was the top offensive defenseman in September/October, scoring 2-goals and 18-assists in 15-games played. After starting the season with no points in his first three games, Tosh got hot with 2-goals and 11-assists in his next 8-games, a stretch that went from Septmber 21-October 19. Tosh had points in eleven of his final twelve games during the September/October period. He ends October with multiple point games in three straight. Runner-up: Calvon Boots, Flin Flon.
SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH: Justen Close, Kindersley Klippers
1998 G Justen Close (Kindersley SK) was the driving force behind the Klippers emerging as the top team in the league through the first six weeks of the season as he posted a 9-2-and-1 record with a 1.96-GAA and .930-SPCT. Close ended October on a 6-0-and-1 streak and he allowed more than two goals in a game only twice. Perhaps the biggest highlight of the month was October 5-6 in Flin Flon when he stopped 71 of 74 shots in helping the Klippers complete a road sweep in a tough opposition rink. MYSASK 411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH: Aiden Bulych, Yorkton Terriers
2001 F Aiden Bulych (Yorkton SK) began his Junior ‘A’ career on the top line with his hometown team and he’s made the most of his opportunity, producing 5-goals and 15-assists in 16-games played. After opening the season pointless in his first two games, Bulych dropped four on Weyburn on September 21st and then proceeded to record a point in twelve straight. He leads all first year players in scoring this season. Runner-up: Vincent Nardone, Flin Flon.
