Newton Stands Tall for Flin Flon, Nipawin Scores with .01 Seconds to take series

With .01 seconds left on the clock, Nipawin’s Josh McDougall ended the season for the Flin Flon Bombers.

Brendan Newton (Medicine Hat, AB) was more than spectacular, he did everything he could for the Maroon and White, stopping 53 of the 54 shots sent his way.

Nipawin’s Declan Hobbs was almost equally as spectacular, making 33 saves en route to a shutout.

The referees were certainly not left off the game sheet, as there were a total of 14 penalties called in the elimination game, of which 6 were made in the first overtime period. It was not meant to be Flin Flon’s night. Despite the gutsy effort, and through all of the adversity, Nipawin was finally able to end it in the first overtime period.

Every Bomber certainly gave every bit of effort tonight, and left nothing on the ice. They deserved a much better outcome. This young group has a lot to look forward to, and this tough loss will provide the returning group with valuable experience going into next season.

The Flin Flon Junior Bombers would like to take this opportunity to thank each of the four twenty year olds for their time, effort and commitment to not only the team, but the entire community as well.

#3- Captain Ben Lanfermann (Paradise Hills, SK)

Once a Bomber always a Bomber.

To the sponsors and fans, this has been another great year of SJHL hockey, and it would not be possible without your dedication and support. We would like to thank you as well.
