Hein scores in OT to force Game 3

Brandson Hein (Winnipeg, MB), was the overtime hero in Wilcox last night, scoring at the 3:48 mark of overtime to force a winner takes all game 3. Chrystopher Collin (Bois De Fillion, PQ) and Isaac Jackson (Warman, SK), had the assists.

Donavan Houle-Villeneuve (Montreal, PQ), had a two goal night. He would open the scoring at the 7:35 mark of the first period on a feed from Dylan Burton (Winnipeg, MB), and Masson Martin (Winnipeg, MB).

Rob Johnson (Kamloops, BC), made it a two goal lead at 9:41 with Tyler Nyman (Circle Pines, MN), getting the helper.

Notre Dame’s Jack Flaman would do all the scoring for the Hounds, being the second player to score 3 in the same game. He was the only player to score in the second period, to draw the Hounds to within one at 1:14 of the second frame.

Flaman would tie it at the 9:19 mark of the 3rd, but Flin Flon’s Houle-Villeneuve would give the Bombers a 3-2 lead on a goal from Ethan Daniels (Fairbank, AK), and Masson Martin.

The Hounds Flaman would eventually tie the game at 14:48 of the 3rd to secure his hat-trick.

It didn’t take long for 19 year old Brandson Hein to end overtime. At the 3:48 mark of OT, he beat Hounds net-minder Jack Ryan, on a nifty play from Collin and Jackson.

“At the end of the day, we found a way to win” said Bombers head coach and GM Mike Reagan, “I told the guys between the 3rd and OT that they are playing for the four 20 year olds, and I’m real proud of them for extending the season.’’

He also added, ‘’it says a lot of this group.’’

Game 3 will go tonight again in Wilcox, game time will be 8:30pm, 7:30pm Saskatchewan time.

ICE CHIP: Brenden Newton stopped 35/38 shots, while Jack Ryan was 30/34. Flin Flon was 0/4 on the power play, while Notre Dame went 1/6.

Flin Flon’s Houle-Villeneuve, Collin, Daniels, and Martin each have 3 points in two games on their first SJHL playoff run.

Flin Flon has 13 different players with points.

Notre Dame’s Smedsrud has 7 points for Notre Dame, Flaman has 6, and Longjohn has 3. These three have 8 out of Notre Dame’s 9 goals (88%), and 16/23 total points.
