Bombers Force Game 7

By Flin Flon Bombers, 04/10/17, 10:15AM CDT

Five goals and a 33 save performance from Brenden Newton, pushed the SJHL Semi Finals to a seventh game.

It was the offensive game that the Bombers were looking for.

After leading the SJHL in scoring during the regular season, the Bombers had only been able to muster 9 goals over the first five games of the series which had them down 3-2 going into Game 6 last night in Nipawin.

But three goals in the first, two more in the second, and a solid 33 save performance by Brenden Newton (Medicine Hat, AB) has forced a Game 7 at the Whitney Forum with a 5-1 win.

Five different goal scorers hit the sheet in the win with Eric Sinclair (Kenora, ON) opening the scoring 8:04 into the first period on the power play when he shot a one timer past Nipawin goalie Kristian Stead.

Nick Shumlanski (Tisdale, SK) and Rylee Zimmer (Russell, MB) picked up assists on Sinclair’s four of the post season.

After an unbelievable Newton save on a one timer,  Jason Lavallee (Thetord Mines, QC) would pick up his fifth of the playoffs, one timing a shot glove side.  Brandon Lesko (Hafford, SK) and Teal Sobkowicz (Outlook, SK) would pick up the hepers.

Greyson Reitmeier (Nakusp, BC) increased the lead with another power play goal just over a minute later from Zimmer and Shumlanski.

The Hawks Eric Bolden would cut the lead to 3-1 late in the second period after beating Newton, but Nate Hooper (Winnipeg, MB) on the man advantage, and an empty netter from Kristian St. Onge would put the game out of reach.

The pivotal Game Seven goes tomorrow night (Game Time: 7:30 PM – Radio: 102.9 CFAR) with the winner punching their ticket to the SJHL Canalta Cup Finals against the Battlefords North Stars.
