Like a lot of teams at the January 10th CJHL trade deadline, the Flin Flon Bombers stood pat, not making any significant deals to change their roster, but that was not for a lack of trying.
“We made aggressive offers for two different forwards,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan after the 10:00 pm deadline. “At the end of the day, they weren’t moved, and we couldn’t make any trades.”
Being one of the hottest teams in the SJHL right now, the Bombers did make two separate deals on Sunday night, moving 1997 born forwards Josh Hayward (Edmonton, AB) and Issac Tkachuk (Lac La Biche, AB) to the Kindersley Klippers. For Hayward the club also moved 1998 born prospect William Trarback (Macrorie, SK) a defenseman, for the Klippers 2017 1st round pick and a Player Development Fee. For Tkachuk the team got a Player Development Fee.
For Reagan, the team made their substantial moves prior to the deadline, in December, when the team acquired forwards Jason Lavalle (Thetford-Mines, QC) and Rylee Zimmer (Russell, MB) and defenseman Pierre-Luc Morin (Ste-Hélène-de-Kamourask, QC).
“A concern for many was the lack of secondary scoring,” added Reagan. “We felt we addressed that when we picked up Lavallee and Zimmer. In our past 11 games, we have 27 goals from other guys besides (Alex) Smith, (Joel) Kocur and (Brandon) Switzer. It just so happens their line is scoring a lot.”
The Bombers (21-13-0-4) sit third in the Sherwood Division, have been an impressive 15-3-0 since November 14th and have won 10 of their last 11 games moving up to fifth in the SJHL overall, four point back of the Nipawin Hawks with two games in hand.
The post trade deadline Bombers start their playoff stretch starting on Friday when they start a home and home series against the La Ronge Ice Wolves in La Ronge before returning to the Forum on Saturday night.
