It’s been over a week since the Flin Flon Bombers (6-9-0-4) have played a game in the young SJHL season. Last Wednesday and Thursday the team took three of four points when they took on the Melfort Mustangs in a home and home series.
It was highlighted by a breakout performance by 1996 born Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg, MB). Robidoux stopped 66 of 70 shots in the two games, earning him Sasktel SJHL Goaltender of the Week honors. He’ll look to continue that success this weekend when the club is on the road for a pair of games starting tonight in Humboldt against the Broncos (6-12-2-1)(Game Time: 7:30 PM, Radio: 102.9 CFAR).
Currently last in the Sherwood Division, two points back of the La Ronge Ice Wolves who have a game in hand, the Bombers have turned a poor start around. They are 4-4-0-2 in their last 10 which included those two games against Melfort and their four game in five night road trip against the Broncos, Estevan Bruins, Notre Dame Hounds and Weyburn Red Wings.
The Bombers and Broncos have split their two games this season, each winning on each other’s ice. The Bombers won the last meeting, 2-1 in a shootout to start the four game road trip late last month.
The week off could be a good thing for the Bombers as they were mending some injuries to some key players. Tonight will see the debut of recently acquired 1996 born forward Jason Lavallee (Theford Mines, PQ). Lavallee was acqruied from the Penticton Vees of the BJHL in exchange for holdout defenseman Joel Webb, and has been out with a shoulder injury.
The team was without five key players in the lineup and besides Lavallee, defenseman Curtis Roach (Saskatoon, SK) could also slide back into the lineup but is a game time decision.
After tonight the team will be in Kindersley (10-6-0-1) before heading to Nipawin (13-7-2-0) on Tuesday. They return to action at the Whitney Forum next Friday when they host the Battlefords North Stars (15-5-0-2) for a pair of games.
