Bombers Look To Bounce Back After Opening Weekend

By Flin Flon Bombers, 09/22/15, 12:45PM CDT

Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan happy with the teams play despite mustering one point this past weekend.

Despite losing their first two games of the regular season, Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan can take some positives out of their home and home series against the Nipawin Hawks.

“I thought our work ethic, and our physical play was excellent this past weekend,” said Reagan.  “We looked good on the power play, especially on the 5 on 3 that we were able to capitalize on.  These are all things that we can be proud of this weekend.”

After holding leads in both games, 2-0 on Friday and two one goal leads on Saturday, the Bombers were only able to collect one point after losing 6-4 on Friday and 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday.

Defensemen Curtis Roach (Saskatoon, SK) and Joel Webb (Edmonton, AB) offensively lead the way for the Bombers over the weekend.  Roach had four assists in the two losses, three of them in the shootout loss on Saturday, with Webb picking up his first goal as a Bomber in the same game, and adding another two assists.

Forward Alex Smith lead all forwards in points with three (3g, 1a) with Adam Wilson (Edmonton, AB) picking up a pair of goals in the weekend series for this first two as a Bomber.

Despite the losses, Reagan was happy with the fact that they were in both games, two against a team that many are looking to be in the top of the standings all season.

“I think that we deserved at least two points,” added Reagan.  “We skated with the Hawks for two games, we know that Nipawin is going to be of the top teams in the SJHL this season.”

The big thing for the club is being able to hold the lead.

“We had leads in both games, including two one goal leads on Saturday,” said Reagan, “we have to start to play better when we have those leads.”

The Bombers will take off for Melfort tomorrow night before returning for their next home game on Friday against the Humboldt Broncos.
