The Flin Flon Bombers continue their road trip tonight, looking to get back into the win column, when they play the Estevan Bruins (Game Time: 7:30 PM – Radio: 102.9 CFAR).
The Bombers (23-8-5-6) are fresh off a disappointing 5-4 shootout loss against the Nipawin Hawks last night, despite leading 4-3 late in the third period. Despite the loss, Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan felt his team played a great road game and deserved the win last night.
“I think we were the better team last night,” said Reagan. “I’m happy with our will to get back after being down (losing 3-0 at one point).”
The Bombers are now two points behind the Nipawin Hawks for second in the Sherwood Division and for fourth overall in the SJHL with two games in hand.
Tonight they shift their focus to the Estevan Bruins (17-21-1-6) who are third in the Vietrra Division and ninth overall, three points up on Humboldt and the final SJHL playoff spot.
This will be the fourth and final time these two teams will meet up this season with Flin Flon holding a 2-1 record against the Bruins. Estevan does have the advantage of winning their last meeting, December 6 in Flin Flon when they beat them 5-2. At the time the Bombers were in the middle of a six game losing streak.
The last time Flin Flon was in Estevan the Bombers beat up on the Bruins 9-0.
These two teams are no stranger to each other though, as they met up in the first round of the playoffs last night when the Bruins edged out the Bombers three games to two in their best of five series.
After tonight, the Bombers will have tomorrow off before finishing off the trip in Weyburn on Friday and Notre Dame on Saturday.
