Slump Continues

By Flin Flon Bombers, 12/17/14, 7:30AM CST

Flin Flon fires 40 shots on the La Ronge net, but lose in a shootout 2-1. Losing streak now at five in the month of December.

The Flin Flon Bombers were looking to get back in the win column last night after a poor start to the month of December, but despite firing 40 shots on the La Ronge net, the home town Ice Wolves scored twice in a shoot out to edge the Bombers 2-1, increasing the Bombers losing streak to five games.

Flin Flon was unable to beat Wolves goalie Kris Joyce, in the shoot out, and now have a record of 15-6-5-4.

The Bombers opened the scoring in the first when leading scorer Chris Rauckman (Red Deer, AB) fired a shot in the slot beating Joyce five-hole.  Brandon Masson (Oak Lake, MB) and Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) each picked up assists on Rauckman’s 22nd of the season, but only his second in six games.

Flin Flon would outshoot the Ice Wolves 14-5 in the opening period and 13-8 in the final period but were unable to beat Joyce for the rest of the night.

The Ice Wolves would tie up the score mid way through the second when just after killing of an Austin Evans’ (Whistler, BC) penalty, a wide open Tristen Elder one timed a shot in the almost the same location as Rauckman’s first period goal, beating Flin Flon starter Simon Hofley (Ottawa, ON).

Hofley made 26 of 27 saves in the start.  His record now for the season sits at 11-7-3.

No goals in the third and in overtime meant a shoot out.

After both the Wolves’ Jared Blaquire and Flin Flon’s Alex Smith each fired wide, La Ronge’s Jared Iron would beat Hofley, setting the goalie off as he though the puck didn’t cross the line.

Rauckman would be stopped next before Dave Randall scored on the next attempt, giving the home side the win.

The Bombers travel to Humboldt tonight looking for their first victory of December.
