Bombers Cruise To Melfort

By Flin Flon Bombers, 12/03/14, 12:45PM CST

Flin Flon returns to action with a quick trip to play the Mustangs.

The Flin Flon Bombers (CJHL Rank #18) and Melfort Mustangs (CJHL Rank #13) will meet up for the sixth time tonight in this young season (Game Time: 7:30 pm – Radio 102.9 CFAR).

Flin Flon (15-3-4-3) has collected points in three of the five so far, but only have one win to show for their efforts.  That came in the last meeting between the two Sherwood Division foes, a 3-2 shootout win at the North Lights Palace back on November 12th.

Three games have gone to extra time and besides the 4-0 Melfort (17-5-1-4) win in Flin Flon back on November 9 all of them have decided by one goal.

Melfort sits two points up on Flin Flon for first in the Sherwood and have an identical 7-1-1-1 record in their last 10 games.  The only difference is they have played two more games than Flin Flon has.

They, like the Bombers were idle on the December 1 roster cut down day, choosing to stay with their roster that have the SJHL’s leading point getter in Travis Mayan and Top 5 scorer Adam Fauchoux.  Mayan has had the most success against Flin Flon this season scoring 8 points (5g, 3a) in the five games.

In the pipes is Richard Palmer.  Palmer is tied for first in the SJHL with a 2.01 goals against average and has a 0.924 save percentage.

Flin Flon is coming off a big month of November.  Since the acquisition of goalie Adam Beukeboom (Sundre, AB) and forwards Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) and Joel Kocur (Edson, AB), the team is 6-0-1, something Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan alluded to when he commented on one of the reasons the club was quiet on December 1.

They are also fresh off being put in first in the SJHL Online’s Weekly Power Rankings and currently sit in 18th in the latest Pointstreak CJHL Top 20 Weekly Rankings.

After tonight’s game they return to host a pair of games this weekend starting on Friday against the Kindersley Klippers (CJHL Rank #9) with Estevan visiting on Saturday.
