The December 1st cut down day has come and gone and the Flin Flon Bombers Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan didn’t make anymoves this time around.
December 1st is when teams have to drop down to 25 carded players, after December 1, the Flin Flon Bombers are down to 21. Just because there weren’t any moves, doesn’t mean Reagan wasn’t looking.
“There was some communication between teams, some deals that we were looking at and close on,” said Reagan from his office late last night. “But the price tags were too high and we were not prepared to give up a player from our roster right now or any of the players it would have taken to make those moves.”
The Bombers are second in the Sherwood Division with a 15-3-4-3 record, two points behind the first place Melfort Mustangs with two games in hand. They are only six points behind the SJHL’s leading Kindersley Klippers with four games in hand.
“We have plenty of cards remaining if someone comes available or if the right deal comes up,” added Reagan. “We like our team right now, we made our deals early.”
The deals Reagan is talking about may have started last season when he traded away forwards Brett Boehm, Cam Blair, Dillan McCombie and goaltender Devin Buffalo. Those trades have been talked about time and time again with the additions of Tanner Lishchynsky (Saskatoon, SK), Chris Raukman (Red Deer, AB) and Alex Smith (Edmonton, AB).
But since the season has started the Bombers have re-added forward Austin Calladine (Saskatoon, SK) and have added defenseman Tyler Bell (Regina, SK) both from the WHL.
Three trades at the beginning of the month have also made an impact when the club acquired forwards Brandon Switzer (Brandon, MB) and Joel Kocur (Edson, AB) and goaltender Adam Beukeboom (Sundre, AB). Since those deals the team has gone 6-0-1.
The CJHL Trade Deadline is January 10th.
Flin Flon plays in Melfort tomorrow night before hosting the Klippers at the Whitney Forum on Friday.
