While most players since the end of the off season has gone back to their home town’s and are working and keeping in shape for the upcoming season, Dean Allison (Surrey, BC) is doing something more and it’s starting to catch fire with the internet and various Media outlets.
While Allison gears up for his 20 year old season with the Bombers, the forward is killing time by creating #MovieStarMonday with his buddy, Ben Vikich of the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles, and it’s creating a stir on Instagram and Facebook.
What’s #MovieStarMonday? Well it pits the two friends and their attempt to re-create movie posters. It started with the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly hit Step Brothers and was just a way of making their friends laugh.
"The picture was an instant hit among our friends on social media, and [we] have done a new photo every Monday since using the [Instagram and Twitter] hashtag we created, #MovieStarMonday," Allison told online new outlet HLN via email.
It’s been four months since the Step Brothers post and they’ve re-created other movies from The Notebook to ET to Wayne’s World to Wedding Crashers. They’ve even stayed close their love of hockey by doing the “Classic” movie Goon.
They do have rules which make it unique, they don’t Photoshop, have a budget of $10 or less per photo shoot. They base their ideas on their favorite movies; ones they think will be funny and by requests.
In the past week a friend put their antics on Reddit which has made the duo really take off with media outlets from both sides of the border picking it up. They have been featured on BarDown on TSN, CBS Sports, Bleacher Report and inTouch Weekly.
All the hype is not something they were looking for, “We really didn’t have a goal at all in the first place other than to make our friends laugh. But after all this growing hype and everything, getting ourselves features on Ellen I think would be the peak,” commented Allison.
