The Flin Flon Bombers are pleased to announce that a pair of former players will continue their hockey careers next season.
1993 born forward Cole McCaig (Brandon, MB) has committed to the Marian University (Wisconsin) Sabres NCAA Division III men’s hockey program for the 2014-15 season.
McCaig finished up his three year junior career in Waywayseecappo with the MJHL’s Wolverines after being traded there on November 28th from the Bombers. Before that McCaig suited up in 123 games with the Bombers compiling 30 points (12g, 18a) along with 120 penalty minutes. In Wayway, he had 16 points (4g, 12a) in 38 games.
The Sabres finished 5th in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association with a 10-7-1 record. They had a 12-13-2 record overall. This season McCaig will play against three other former Bombers with forwards Riley Storzuk and Brett Penner and defenseman Brandt Weldon all play for Concordia.
Along with McCaig, 1993 born Landon Hiebert (Red Deer, AB) has committed to the Lindenwood University Lions men’s hockey program for the 2014-15 season. The Lions are a Division 1 team in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
Hiebert played in 101 games for the Bombers over two plus seasons finishing up with 34 points (18g, 16a). Hiebert was traded to the Abitibi Eskimos of the NOJHL in November where he played in 24 games putting up 17 points (6g, 11a) for the Eskimos.
The 17th nationally ranked Lindenwood team lost in the first round of the 2014 National Championship. The university is located in St. Charles, Missouri.
