Backs Against The Wall

By Flin Flon Bombers, 03/11/14, 2:30PM CDT

The hard working, never quit Bombers look to even the series tonight after Estevan took a 2-1 lead with another OT win.

It’s do or die tonight for the Flin Flon Bombers as they take to the ice for game 4 in their best of 5 Wild Card series with the Estevan Bruins.

Last night the team out shot and out chanced their opponents, but came away with a 4-3 overtime loss when Bruins forward Lynden Pastachak put one blocker side on Simon Hofley just 1:47 into the extra frame, the third straight game that went into overtime.

The overtime goal caused a little confusion as it went right through the net and only the ref and goal judge actually knew it went in.

Also like the previous two games, the Bombers had to come back from a defect to tie the game to send it OT.  After the Bruins took a 3-1 early in the third, Flin Flon scored two goals, one from Erik Pedersen which was his second of the night and third of the series, and the tying goal game with five minutes left in the game when Parker Evans-Campbell scored his first of the post season.

Flin Flon outshot the Bruins, 50-37, especially in the third period when they fired 16 shots compared to the Bruins 8, but once again Matt Gibney was sold in the pipes.

Flin Flon will look to extend the series tonight with Game 5 scheduled for Thursday back in Estevan.

ICE CHIPS:  Flin Flon was 0 for 5 on the power play compared to Estevan’s 0 for 2.  In the series neither team has scored a power play goal.  ---  After being outshot in most of their games all season, the Flin Flon Bombers hold a significant edge in the series, out shooting Estevan in all three games with a combined total of 147-119.  ---  In the other Wild Card series, Notre Dame took a 2-1 series lead with a 2-1 win last night against the Nipawin Hawks.  That series also resumes tonight.
