The Bombers needed a shootout against the Notre Dame Hounds to snap their seven game losing streak, and make ground in the SJHL playofff picture.

Two goals by Austin Evans and another one in a shootout helped propel the Flin Flon Bombers to a 4-3 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds last night, but more importantly, helped them snap their seven game losing streak.

“Big win, big win tonight for sure,” commented Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan.  “The guys are pretty excited to get that monkey off their back.”

Notre Dame’s Cory Anderson opened the scoring, just 1:40 into the first, and it stayed that way until the second when Evans scored his first of two on the night, redirecting a Dalton Menke shot, who picked up the only assist on the goal.

Goalie Simon Hofley made the start and made 28 saves to improve his record to 5-9-0-0 on the season.

The Bombers would take a 2-1 when two minutes after his first, Evans would score his second, this time unassisted.

That lead was short lived as the Hounds would tie the score up at the 9:17 mark of the middle period and would take another lead, 3-2, early in the third period with Anderson picking up his second of the game, on the power play.

That lead would stand until the 7:51 mark, when defenseman Brock Hounsell scored his sixth of the season to tie the score and send it to overtime.  Rob Cameron and Connor Bucsis each picked up the assits.

After overtime would prove nothing, Evans and Austin Calladine each scored on their attempts and Hofley shut the door for the victory.

“We are going to enjoy our day off and then get back at hit the next night, we can’t live in this moment for too long,” said Reagan.

The Bombers return to action Friday night when they face the Weyburn Red Wings.
