Flin Flon Bombers Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan announced yesterday that they have traded 1994 born forward Brett Boehm (Martensville, SK) to the Yorkton Terriers in exchange for 1995 born forward Dalton Menke (Shamrock, SK) and future considerations.
It what is deemed a shocking move, the Bombers trade their leading scorer who had 23 points (10g, 13a) in 21 games, as the team continues to struggle on offense. They sit in the bottom of the SJHL in goals for with 72. But it was a move that was needed.
“We are disappointed to trade Brett,” said Reagan. “But he felt that he needed a change and we felt that our vision of the team was different and that a change was needed.”
In Menke the Bombers get an 18 year old player that will be with the club for two more season past this and a player that comes in as the leader in rookie points with 10 (6g, 4a) in 24 games to go along with 10 penalty minutes.
“Dalton is excellent in the faceoff circle and is someone that plays well on both sides of the puck” commented Reagan.
Menke was named the SJHL’s Rookie of the Week earlier in the season.
The 6’1 180 pounder played last year with the Tisdale Trojans of the SMAAAHL where he had 12 points (6g, 6a) in 31 games.
In other transaction news, the Bombers had traded 1994 defenseman Connar Bass to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the MJHL in exchange for future considerations. Bass was acquired by the Bombers earlier in the season from the Calgary Mustangs of the AJHL and had 1 assist in 14 games with the Bombers. The team had nine defenseman on the roster before the Bass deal.
