After almost a week off, the Flin Flon Bombers return to the Whitney Forum ice tonight to host the undefeated and nationally ranked Kindersley Klippers (5) for the start of pair of home games.
The surprise of the SJHL season so far, the 3-0 Klippers come to town after the week of for the SJHL Showcase, with wins over the Battleford North Stars and Melville Millionaires out scoring their opponents 14 – 6.
One reason for the early success can fall on the shoulder of goaltender Tyrell King, who sits in the Top 5 in most goalie categories with a 2.00 goals against average and a 0.930 save percentage.
The team also boasts two players in the top 10 in league scoring with Cody Thiel (4g, 2a) and Stefen Seel (3g, 2a).
Flin Flon currently sits in the bottom of the Sherwood Divison, only winning once so far on the season, but as Head Coach and General Manager comments, there is no reason to push the panic button just yet.
“We have a big turnaround this season with our team,” said Reagan, “it’s taking a little longer for the guys to gel as a unit, but I’m not worried. We don’t need to be the best at the start of the season, just the best at the end.”
One thing that surprises many is the lack of scoring from the Bombers, they sit in last in the SJHL with only 5 goals for. One factor is that 2013 Rookie of the Year Brett Boehm has just returned to the lineup. He was out for the first two games of the season but slotted in on Saturday against the Nipawin Hawks.
The teams lock horns twice this weekend, both games at 7:30 at the Whitney Forum.
