Bombers Entertain Hawks

By Flin Flon Bombers, 09/27/13, 2:15PM CDT

Flin Flon hosts 2013 Northern Semi Final foes in one game this weekend.

The Flin Flon Bombers return to the Whitney Forum tomorrow night after a week off.

The last time the team was on the ice was last Saturday when they beat Melfort, 2-0, to split their opening weekend series against the Stangs.  They turn to their opponents from the first round the SJHL playoffs last year, the Nipawin Hawks.

The Hawks come in losers of their first two games of the 2013-14 season, dropping a pair to the suprising La Ronge Ice Wolves during the opening weekend.  They haven’t been in game action since their 6-4 beating last Saturday night.

The Hawks and Bombers held an epic 6 game battle in the Northern Conference Semi-Finals last season which the Bombers won.  From last year’s team, the Hawks lost eight players from their roster including their starting goalie, but still keep forwards Tad Kozun and Taylor Balog who will lead the offence for the Hawks this season.

2012 Rookie of the Year Devin Buffalo proved his worth during the weekend posting a shutout Saturday night and only allowing two goals on Friday on 33 shots.  In total Buffalo stopped 72 of 74 shots posting a 0.973 save percentage to go along with a 1.00 goals against average.

Flin Flon had some troubles scoring in their first two games of the season.

After getting shutout by former Bomber Austin Rediron in the first game, they only managed to score two goals the next night, one from Cam Blair and another by Dillan McCombie.

But the team is deep, and will look to forwards Brody Robinson, Tyson Empey and newly acquired Justin Rasmussen and Jean Kristoff Grenier to get the offence going.  2013 Rookie of the Year Brett Boehm has been injured the first two games and doesn’t look to be in the game tomorrow night.  Expect his return next weekend when they host the Kindersley Klippers for a pair.

Game time is 7:30.
