In what is shaping out to be the series of the playoffs, the Hawks took Game 4 last night in the North Division Semi Final, 4-3.
Eli Lichtenwald, who only had one point coming into last night’s game, scored two goals and added an assist in the win. Taylor Balog and Tad Kozun scored the others for the Hawks.
Lichtenwald opened the scoring just 57 seconds into the game and Hawks held the lead all game. Lichtenwald would add another in the first to take a 2-0 lead into the second.
Jason Wark would close the lead to one with this first of the season, as the two teams traded goals back and forth.
Kozun would regain the two goal lead before Landon Hiebert brought the team back to within one before the end of the middle frame with his second of the post season.
Another early Hawks goal, two minutes into the third, would be the eventual game winner off the stick of Balog. Spencer Mault would make things interesting with this first of the season.
Game 5 of the back and forth tennis match is scheduled for tomorrow back at the Cage in Nipawin before returning to Flin Flon for Game 6 on Saturday.
ICE CHIPS: Both Flin Flon and Nipawin went 0 for 4 on the power play. In the series the two teams have a combined 1 for 37 on the power play with the only goal coming in Game 3 by Flin Flon’s Dillan McCombie. --- The 50/50 hit $8,000 last night with one lucky winner going home with $4,000. --- In other SJHL playoff action last night, Humboldt took a 2-1 series lead with a 7-1 win against the Mustangs, Notre Dame now leads 2-1 after beating Melville 3-2 overtime win and Yorkton now leads 2-1 over Estevan Bruins with a 2-1 win.
