It was an electric two nights at the Cage in Nipawin for the start of the North Division semi final between #3 Flin Flon Bombers and #2 Nipawin Hawks. For those of you not able to make it or check out the scoreboard here’s a quick recap.
Game 1 had the Hawks come out hitting and scoring, picking up a 2-0 lead before the end of the first period.
Brock Hounsell continues his hot hand clipping the two goal lead with his first of the post season at the 14 minute mark of the second. Nipawin would regain the two goal cushion forty seconds later before Landon Hiebert scored a beauty, tucking in a partial brake away past Hawks goalie Davis Jones.
With a 3-2 Hawks lead going into the final period Josh Roach would tie things up five minutes in and Brett Penner would score the eventual game winner with less than five minutes to go in the third.
Devin Buffalo would make 33 saves for the win while Flin Flon fired 39 shots on Jones.
Game 2 started differently with the Bombers opening the scoring at the midway mark of the first, Penner’s second of the playoffs, and his first of two on the night.
That lead lasted all of 24 seconds as Artsiom Kalashnikov scored to tie things up. That tie last 25 seconds with Hounsell scoring his second of the post season to regain the lead.
Nipawn would tie the score in the second, with the only goal of the middle frame with Ben Johnstone’s first of the playoffs.
The third saw four goals scored, two from each team with Flin Flon having to come back from two separate one goal leads, the final one coming with 36 seconds left in the game, from Roach, his second of the series, to send things into overtime.
