Hooper Waked Higgins Get SJHL Weekly Awards

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Nate Hooper, Flin Flon Bombers
1998 F Nate Hooper (Winnipeg MB) ended the regular season on a high note and also got the playoffs off on the right foot too as he compiled 4-goals and 4-assists in 3-games played.  He scored 2-goals and 3-assists in 2-games against Weyburn as the Bombers completed a two game series sweep. He also had 2-goals and 3-points in the regular season finale against Melfort.  Hooper finished with 27-goals and 60-assists in 58-games, good enough for third overall in the SJHL scoring race. Runner-up: Brandson Hein, Flin Flon.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Gabriel Waked, Flin Flon Bombers
1999 G Gabriel Waked (St Bruno de Montarville PQ) backstopped the Bombers to a two game series sweep over the Weyburn Red Wings in the Survivor Series and he went 3-and-0 overall over the course of the 7-day period, leading his team to a win in the last game of the regular season as well.  In all, Waked turned away 65-of-71 shots for a .915-SPCT, posting a tidy 2.00-GAA in the process. He was 8-4-and-1 in the regular season after arriving in a January trade from his hometown province. He posted a 3.36-GAA and .894-SPCT. Runner-up: Riley Kohonick, Notre Dame.

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Tyler Higgins, Flin Flon Bombers
1998 D Tyler Higgins (Beaconsfield PQ) stepped up in the absence of Calvon Boots over the weekend in logging some extra minutes to help the Bombers eliminate the Weyburn Red Wings in two straight games.  Higgins scored a goal and added an assist in the clincher Sunday evening. He also set up a goal in the regular season finale on Tuesday. He had 3-goals and 7-assists in 24-games during the regular season after joining Flin Flon from Saint John (QMJHL).  Runner-up: Charles Martin, Notre Dame.
