This is your Flin Flon Bombers Week Recap Powered by Canadian Tire.
The Flin Flon Bombers four games in five nights road trip down south began with a disappointing 4-1 loss to the Yorkton Terriers. Despite the game being scoreless, the Bombers played a great road period to open the contest. The wheels came off in the middle frame. The Terriers would break the scoreless tie with Evan Auld scoring his first career SJHL goal. The Terriers extended the lead to 2-0 on a deflection in front by Aiden Knutson. Bombers forward Carter Cormier cut the deficit in half by scoring his first career SJHL goal on the power play. After killing off a 5 on 3 power play for a full two minutes, the Bombers would then give up two goals seven seconds apart in the dying minutes of the second period steering the game out of reach.
The Bombers responded the next night in Wilcox, Saskatchewan by defeating the Notre Dame Hounds 4-2. Rookie goaltender Massimo Urbani made 29 saves for his second win of the season and forward Keefe Gruener led the way offensively with a three-point night. Forward Koen Senft chipped in with a goal and an assist. Meanwhile veteran defenceman Pierce Yakimchuk scored his first career SJHL goal and Ryder Ringor’s empty netter with just over a minute remaining would secure the win for the Bombers.
After a day off on Thursday, the Bombers were back on the ice to take on the winless Weyburn Red Wings. Red Wings Head Coach & GM, Cody Mapes, was busy on the trade front earlier in the week, acquiring five forwards to help with the team’s scoring woes. Weyburn jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals coming from Max Chakrabarti and Josh Karman. After that it was all Carter Anderson. Anderson scored a pair of goals and added a pair of assists for a four-point night helping the Bombers come from behind and defeat the Red Wings 4-2. Ryder Ringor’s goal at 12:49 of the third period held up to be the winner and Keefe Gruener’s hot start to the season continued, scoring his 6th of the season. Massimo Urbani made his second straight start in net and made 38 saves.
The Bombers wrapped up their four games in five nights road trip in Estevan Saturday night dropping a 4-2 decision to the Bruins. The Bruins built a 2-0 lead in the first period and the slow start was too much for the Bombers to overcome this time around. Newcomer Jake Torget made his SJHL and Bombers debut in net and made 20 saves. Evin Bossel and Carter Cormier were the goal scorers in the loss.
After the road trip the Bombers currently sit in second place in the Sherwood Division and fourth overall with a 4-3-1-0 record.
