This is your Flin Flon Bombers Week Recap Powered by Canadian Tire.
The Bombers travelled to Melville to open up their 4 games in 5 nights road trip and were able to come away with a 3-0 win over the Millionaires. Bombers Goaltender Matthew Kieper made just 12 saves for his first career SJHL shutout in his 100th career junior start. Ryder Ringor had a pair of goals and Liam Hunks scored his 2nd as a Bomber.
The following night the Bombers extended the shut-out streak to 2 straight games with a 4-0 win over Estevan. Kieper was a bit busier in net making 22 saves. Keefe Gruener had a pair of goals while Ringor and Joey Lies chipped in with singles.
After a day off in Regina, the Bombers took on the red hot Weyburn Red Wings who were 8-2-0-0 in their previous 10 games and sitting in 3rd place in the overall standings. In what seemed like a playoff atmosphere, the Bombers led 2-1 until the Red Wings found the equalizer to send the game to overtime. Weyburn would complete the comeback off a Max Chakrabarti goal with 1:29 remaining in overtime. Carter Cormier had both Bomber goals in the loss.
The final game of the road trip saw the Bombers head to Wilcox to take on the Notre Dame Hounds. Despite giving up the first goal of the game, the Bombers would go on to score 7 unanswered goals to take this one 7-1. Cormier’s hot play continued as the 20-year-old forward had a goal and 3 assists. Cole Tanchuk, Ryder Mucha, Rhett Ewen, Anthony Piccininno, Gruener and Ringor all scored in the win.
On arguably the toughest stretch of the season, the Bombers were able to take 7 out of a possible 8 points on this road trip. The Bombers will now prepare for a heavy weight tilt with the SJHL leading Melfort Mustangs on Saturday at the Whitney Forum.
