Despite missing four out of the team’s five leading scorers, the Bombers found a way to go 3-0 this week with a win over the Nipawin Hawks and a pair of wins against the Weyburn Red Wings.
On Tuesday night the Bombers travelled to Nipawin to take on their Sherwood Division rival. Flin Flon would jump out to a 3-0 lead off of goals from Brent Gulenchyn, Alexi Sylvestre and Noah Houle. Nipawin would chip away at the deficit until Houle would capitalize again on the power play to extend the Bombers lead. The Hawks wouldn’t go down without a fight. Nipawin would claw their way back and tie the game at 4-4 at the half way point of the third period. Sylvestre would score his second of the game and Ethan Mercer would put the game out of reach for a 6-4 win over the Hawks.
This past weekend the Bombers hosted the Weyburn Red Wings for a pair of games at the Whitney Forum. In game one the Bombers would again jump out to a 3-0 lead with goals coming from Joey Lies, Sylvestre and Cory King. The Red Wings would overcome the three goal deficit off of a hat-trick from Ryley Morgan. Bombers forward Zach Cain would restore the lead in the third period. Cain’s goal would end up being the game winner in the 4-3 win.
Last night the Bombers extended their winning streak to three games with a 5-3 win over Weyburn. The Bombers would get goals from five different scorers (Brock Mueller, Barron Stibbe, Liam Bridger, Kylynn Olafson and Ethan Mercer). With the win the Bombers now sit 34-13-2-1 and are currently in first place in the Sherwood Division. The Bombers are tied with Humboldt for second place overall with the Broncos having a game in hand.
