Flin Flon Bombers Week Recap: Powered By Canadian Tire

The top two teams in the Sherwood Division squared off in a pair of games this past weekend between the Flin Flon Bombers and La Ronge Ice Wolves.

On Friday night in Flin Flon, the Bombers were able to come away with a decisive 5-1 victory. The line of Cole Duperreault, Jaxon Martens and Jaeden Mercier combined for 8 points to lead the way for the Bombers. Jacob Vockler and defenceman Reece Richmond also chipped in with 2 points each and goaltender Harmon Laser-Hume was steady in net making 28 saves.

Last nights game in La Ronge could arguably be a candidate for the SJHL game of the year. La Ronge would head into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead until just a minute into the 2nd period, Duperreault would score his 23rd of the season to tie the game. Jeremi Tremblay would give the Bombers the lead on the power play with just over 13 minutes remaining in the 3rd period. With just 3 minutes remaining in regulation, the Ice Wolves would pull their goaltender making it a 6 on 4 and they would capitalize on it from a shot from the point by rookie defenceman Kaycee Coyle.

The game would remain tied through overtime and head to a shootout. It would take 10 shooters from each team to decide a winner. Defenceman Cory King would net the shootout winner and give the Bombers the 3-2 win.

The Bombers head into Christmas break just 2 points behind La Ronge for 1st place in the Sherwood Division with 4 games in hand. Flin Flon and La Ronge will square off once again on Tuesday, January 3rd in La Ronge.
