Flin Flon Bombers Week Recap: Powered By Canadian Tire

The Flin Flon Bombers were able to get a weekend split against the Melfort Mustangs after dropping a 6-3 decision on Friday night. The Bombers would get revenge with a thrilling 5-4 overtime win last night at the Whitney Forum.

On Friday night the Bombers would let a 2-0 lead in the first period slip away as the Mustangs would score three unanswered goals. Kylynn Olafson and Cole Tanchuk scored their first goals of the season in the opening period. Jaeden Mercier would even the score at three a piece. Things would go downhill for the Bombers during the second half of the game as the Mustangs would add three more goals in the 6-3 win over the Bombers.

Last night the Mustangs would get on the board first and take a 1-0 lead heading into the third period. The Bombers would take the lead with goals from Jaxon Martens and Cole Duperreault just twenty five seconds a part. Less than five minutes later the Mustangs would capitalize and tie the game at 2-2. Duperreault’s second of the night and Jeremi Tremblay’s 13th of the season would give the Bombers the 4-2 lead. Melfort would then find a way to send the game into overtime with two goals with less than three minutes remaining in the final frame. Cole Duperreault would go on to score the overtime winner to finish off his second hat trick in the last seven days to give the Bombers a much needed 5-4 overtime win.

With the win, the Bombers now sit with a 16-6-2-1 record and cap off a 5-3-1-0 record in November. Flin Flon currently sits in first place in the Sherwood Division. However the La Ronge Ice Wolves sit just two points back of the Bombers with a game in hand.
