In a battle of two of the SJHL’s elite teams, the Bombers pulled away with a 4-1 win to open up the weekend in North Battleford. Keefe Gruener had a pair of goals and Anthony Piccininno had his first three-point game of the season. Carter Cormier and Rhett Ewen also scored in the win meanwhile goaltender Matthew Kieper was solid making 20 saves. Ewen’s goal was his 7th point in his last 10 games and forward Kylynn Olafson made his return to the lineup after missing the previous 2 months with an injury.
The Bombers attempt for their 11th straight victory came to and end on Saturday night, dropping a 3-2 decision in overtime. The North Stars came out of the gate hot with a pair of goals in the opening period. The Bombers would eventually claw their way back into the game to force overtime off of goals from Gruener and Joey Lies. Former Bomber Danny Williams son, Rylan played spoiler for the North Stars with his 9th of the season in overtime. The Bombers outshot the North Stars 35-17 and held the North Stars to just 6 shots total in the 2nd and 3rd periods.
The Bombers will return to action on Tuesday night when the visiting Nipawin Hawks come to town.
