The Flin Flon Bombers will put their three game winning streak on the line against the Melfort Mustangs on Wednesday night in Melfort.
The Bombers and Mustangs have played each other just once so far this season with Flin Flon taking it 2-0 back in September. Despite getting off to a slow start, the Mustangs have won three out of their last four games and currently sit in third place in the Sherwood Division with a 7-7-4-0 record. Defenceman Leyton Holoien currently leads the Mustangs in scoring with 14 points (3 G, 11 A) in 17 games. Holoien is an early candidate for the SJHL’s top defenceman award. Goaltender Joel Favreau has been steady in net posting a 2.31 GAA & .916 SV%. Meanwhile goaltender James Venne returned to the Mustangs earlier this month after beginning the season with the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders.
Flin Flon currently has the league’s top power play at 28.2% and Melfort has the fourth best power play sitting at 19.5%. Melfort’s 86.8% penalty kill is a league high. The Bombers 85.3% penalty kill sits in third among all SJHL clubs.
Bombers forward Cole Duperreault is currently tied for fourth in SJHL scoring with 23 points (12 G, 11 A) in 16 games this season. Defenceman Reece Richmond’s 13 points (1G, 12 A) has him ranked fourth in SJHL defencemen scoring. Goaltender Harmon Laser-Hume continues his stellar play posting the league’s second best goals against average at 2.06 and leads the league in shutouts with three.
