This is your Flin Flon Bombers Week Preview Powered by Elite Communications.
After extending their winning streak to 5 games and undefeated in regulation in 21 games, the Bombers will now hit the road for one of their toughest stretches of the season. The Bombers will head down south for 4 games in 5 nights beginning on Tuesday night in Melville. The team will then head to Estevan on Wednesday, Weyburn on Friday and then the trip will wrap up in Wilcox to take on Notre Dame on Saturday.
Melville is currently 18-18-2-1 and are coming off two big wins over Weyburn and Estevan. The Millionaires were busy at the CJHL trade deadline, acquiring Louis Nadeau and Devon Winder from the AJHL’s Drumheller Dragons in a three-way trade that saw veteran defenceman Liam Rodman end up in Humboldt. Millionaires forward Jadon Iyogun recently committed to Tennessee State University, a new NCAA Division I program.
The Estevan Bruins were also busy at the deadline, moving out captain Cade Kennedy, Michael Carter, Cole Robertson and Luke Lawford. After the team lost goaltender Benjamin Polhill to the BCHL, the Bruins brought in Beck Boiteau from the AJHL’s Whitecourt Wolverines. Rylan Ringor was acquired from the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings and former Bomber Ethan Andrews was acquired in the Luke Lawford deal with Notre Dame. Caleb Potter and Steven Steranka were reassigned to the Bruins from the WHL. Steranka had a 4 point debut with the Bruins in their 7-4 win over La Ronge. The Bruins are currently sitting 9 points outside of the final playoff spot.
The Weyburn Red Wings are sitting in 3rd place, 5 points behind the Bombers. The Red Wings were able to sweep the Bombers in the Whitney Forum back in October. No team has been able to do this at the Whitney Forum in over 5 years. The Red Wings made a major splash at the deadline, moving veteran goaltender Dazza Mitchell to the Humboldt Broncos in exchange for goaltender Ty Matonovich and forward Josh Sale. The Red Wings also added forward Matthew Edwards. Edwards spent the last 3 seasons in the WHL with the Spokane Chiefs and Vancouver Giants.
The Notre Dame Hounds got younger at the trade deadline, moving out 20 year old captain Liam Hunks to the Bombers and Ethan Andrews to Estevan. The Hounds brought in former Bombers Evin Bossel and Wylie Smith as well as Lawford from Estevan. Forward Adam Pinsent was moved back out east to Yarmouth of the MHL. Despite sitting in 11th place in the overall standings, the Hounds have been playing much better hockey as of late going 4-4-1-1 in the teams previous 10 games.
