Estevan Bruins Win 2022 SJHL Championship

The Estevan Bruins were crowned 2022 SJHL Champions after defeating the visiting Flin Flon Bombers 2-0 in Game 7 of the SJHL Final on Friday, May 6th in Estevan, SK.

Bruins defenceman Kian Calder opened the scoring for the Bruins with a shot from the point at the 14:59 mark of the second period. The Bruins would extend their lead on the power play with 8:22 remaining in the third period on a goal from Olivier Pouliot.

In what was another goaltenders duel, Cal Schell and Boston Bilous both made several key stops as the Bruins and Bombers traded plenty of quality scoring chances. Bilous, named SJHL Playoff Most Valuable Player, turned aside all 29 shots he faced. Schell stopped 28 of 30 shots he faced in a valiant effort in the defeat.

It’s the first SJHL Championship for the Bruins since 1999. Both the Bombers and Bruins have already qualified for the 2022 Centennial Cup National Championships in Estevan.
