Bombers Winless in Estevan, Down 2-0 To Start the SJHL Final

The Flin Flon Bombers were winless in Estevan this weekend, as they will head back to the Whitney Forum down two-games-to-zero to the Estevan Bruins.  The Bruins won 2-0 in Game 2 on Saturday at the Affinity Place, after Friday’s 4-2 defeat.

In Game 1, Bruins captain Eric Houk would open the scoring of the SJHL Final with a partial breakaway and would give the Bruins the lead after the opening frame. Bombers captain Zak Smith would even the score before the Bruins would take the lead for good with a beautiful goal from Dayton Deics. The Bruins would make it 3-1 on a power play marker from Caelan Fitzpatrick in the third period. Smith would cut the deficit to one with just 1:51 remaining in regulation but the Bombers were unable to find the equalizer. Cody Davis would add an empty net goal in the 4-2 win for the Bruins. Both goaltenders played well for their teams with Boston Bilous stopping 25 shots and Cal Schell making 27 saves.

In Game 2, the Bombers and Bruins would remain scoreless after the first period. The SJHL playoff scoring leader Olivier Pouliot would get the games first goal just 1:18 into the second period. The Bombers would put on the pressure in the third period but were unable to solve Bruins goaltender Boston Bilous. Pouliot would add an empty net goal for his second of the game and the Bruins would take Game 2, 2-0. It was another battle between the goaltenders in this contest. Boston Bilous stopped all 26 shots he faced. Meanwhile, Cal Schell was spectacular also making 28 saves in the loss.

The series now shifts back to Flin Flon with Games 3 & 4 on Tuesday, April 26th and Wednesday, April 27th.
