Bombers Week Recap: Powered By Canadian Tire

The Flin Flon Bombers had a very successful weekend defeating the Battlefords North Stars 4-0 & 6-3. The Bombers continue to sit in 3rd place in the SJHL standings with 65 points and trail the Humboldt Broncos by 9 points with 3 games in hand. Flin Flon now has a 7 point lead over the Melfort Mustangs for the top spot in the Sherwood Division with 2 games in hand as well.

On Friday night the Bombers were able to take advantage of the North Stars bus legs and get out to a 3-0 lead after the 1st period. Reece Richmond, Jaxon Martens and Xavier Lapointe were the goal scorers in the opening frame. Lapointe would add his 2nd of the game halfway through the contest and goaltender Cal Schell would make 36 saves for his 6th shut out of the season. Schell’s 6th shut out ties a Bomber team record (since the Bombers joined the SJHL) held by Zac Robidoux who had 6 shut outs during the 2016-17 season.

The Bombers would complete the weekend sweep Saturday night with a 6-3 win over the North Stars. Rookie forward Jacob Vockler led the way offensively netting his 1st career SJHL hat-trick. Drew Kuzma, Cole Duperreault and Zak Smith chipped in with a goal and an assist in the win. Goaltender Ben Montgomery was given the nod in net and made 26 saves for his 3rd win with the Bombers since being acquired at the CJHL’s January 10th Trade Deadline.

Defenceman Xavier Lapointe continues to lead all SJHL defencemen in scoring with 41 points (17g, 24a) in 46 games. Goaltender Cal Schell now leads all SJHL goaltenders in shut outs with 6.
