Bombers Week Recap: Powered By Canadian Tire

The Flin Flon Bombers had a very busy and successful week winning 4 games in just 5 nights. The Bombers are now on a 6 game winning streak and are 1 point ahead of Melfort for 1st place in the Sherwood Division. Flin Flon also has 4 games in hand on the Mustangs.

On Tuesday night, the Bombers were able to steal 2 points in La Ronge with a 5-1 win. This was the team’s 1st game in 2 weeks due to COVID. Xavier Lapointe, Rylan Thiessen, Jeremi Tremblay and Zak Smith all had multipoint games. Newcomer Ethan Anstey made his Bomber debut and chipped in with an assist. Goaltender Cal Schell made 31 saves (16 in the 2nd period). The Bombers power play was lethal going 4/4 in the contest.

The same 2 teams were back in action the next night in Flin Flon with the Bombers winning the nail biter 2-1. Recently acquired goaltender Ben Montgomery made his Bomber debut and was sensational. The Dundas, Ontario, product made 31 saves for his 1st career SJHL win. Forward Drew Kuzma scored his 1st as a Bomber, which ended up being the game winner.

After a day off on Thursday, the Bombers travelled to Melfort with 1st place in the Sherwood Division up for grabs. The Bombers trailed 2-1 after the 1st period but a power play goal by Xavier Lapointe tied the game near the mid point of the 2nd period. After a scoreless 3rd period the Bombers and Mustangs would go to overtime. Rylan Thiessen scored the overtime winner for the Bombers which was also his 1st career SJHL goal.

The next night the Bombers got off to a great start and led 2-0 after the 1st period on goals from Lapointe and Gabriel Shipper. Mustangs forward Nolan Doell cut the lead in half for his 24th of the season before Jeremi Tremblay made it 3-1. The Mustangs would score late in the 3rd period but the comeback fell short as the Bombers were able to complete the weekend sweep.
