Bombers Week Recap: Powered By Canadian Tire

This past week the Bombers went 2-1 with wins over the Nipawin Hawks and Humboldt Broncos before losing yesterday afternoon to Humboldt.

Tuesday night the Bombers defeated Nipawin 5-1 at the Whitney Forum. The Bombers power play was lethal going 3/5 and the penalty kill went 7/7. Defencemen Cole Vardy and Xavier Lapointe led the way offensively with a goal and an assist each. Forward Mackenzie Carson scored his 1st career SJHL goal in his season debut. Cal Schell was nearly perfect making 25 saves.

The Bombers and Broncos faced off the first time since the 2020 playoffs when Flin Flon swept Humboldt in the SJHL quarter finals. Heading into the weekend the Broncos were 1st overall while the Bombers sat in 4th. Saturday night the Bombers held on for a 3-2 win. Forward Jaxon Martens scored the game winning goal with 8 minutes remaining in the 3rd period. Jacob Vockler and Gabriel Shipper scored the other Bomber goals.

Sunday afternoon the Bombers were minutes away from completing the weekend sweep before the Broncos stormed back late in the 3rd period to win 5-4. The Broncos were able to score a late power play goal with just 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Jaxon Martens chipped in with 3 assists while Cole Duperreault and Zak Smith also had multipoint games in the loss.

In the month of November the Bombers posted a 5-3 record and currently sit in 1st place in the Sherwood Division, just 3 points ahead of the Melfort Mustangs.
