The Flin Flon Bombers have traded 2006 born Defenceman Nathan Schaefer to the MJHL’s Virden Oil Capitals in exchange for the CJHL rights of 2006 born Defenceman Cole Slobodian and a Player Development Fee.
Schaefer appeared in 24 games with the Bombers logging 2 goals and 6 assists. Nathan signed with the Bombers in October after being released by the BCHL’s Blackfalds Bulldogs.
“It wasn’t easy moving Nathan but after acquiring Liam Hunks we knew it wouldn’t be a great idea carrying 9 on the backend moving forward. We wanted to make sure we could find a great home for him and I know the Oil Capitals are a great organization. Cole Slobodian won’t be joining our roster this season but you never know what can happen in the future.” – Bombers Assistant Coach & Assistant General Manager, Cole McCaig
The product of Brandon, Manitoba is currently with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks and has chipped in with 2 assists in 38 games this season. Slobodian suited up with the Oil Capitals last season and put up 20 points in 53 games and was named to the MJHL All-Rookie Team. Prior to his time with the Oil Capitals, Cole spent 2 seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA program.
The Bombers want to thank Nathan for his contributions to the organization, and wish him all the best in Virden.
