The Flin Flon Bombers defeated the Estevan Bruins 5-2 on Saturday night at the Whitney Forum to take a 2-0 series lead in their first round Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoff series.
The best-of-seven series resumes Tuesday night at the Affinity Place, where Estevan went 17-7-3-1 in the regular season.
After stopping 29 of 30 shots in game one, Laser-Hume stopped 27 of 29 getting his second win. For the second night in a row the Bombers would open the scoring on Jaeden Mercier’s first of the post-season. Bruins defenceman Aleksa Babic would equal the score during a five minute power play. The Bombers would respond with the next four goals coming from Alexi Sylvestre, Jacob Vockler, Brock Mueller and Ethan Mercer. Bruin forward Jagjeevan Phangura would cut the deficit to three but that would be as close as the Bruins would get.
On Friday night, the Bombers began the series with a 4-1 win. Dawson Karol, Cory King and Alexi Sylvestre would give the Bombers an early 3-0 lead in the opening period. Bruins captain Kade Runke would get the Bruins on the board in the second period. Ethan Mercer’s power play marker would put the game out of reach in the third period.
