The Flin Flon Bombers are down 2-0 in their SJHL Quarter-Final series against the Battlefords North Stars.
In game one, the Bombers got off to a great start with Mason Kaspick scoring just three minutes into the first period. The North Stars would tie the game halfway through the opening frame with a goal by Matthew Henry. Battlefords would add a shorthanded marker just before the first period expired. Jacob Vockler would find a rebound just as the Bombers power play expired to tie the game at 2-2. The Bombers would give up two power play goals late in the second period and trailed 4-2 after the second period. Gabriel Shipper would get the Bombers on the board early in the third period. The flood gates for the North Stars would open up asĀ Jake Southgate, Dylan Esau and Ryland McNinch would put this game away as Battlefords would take game one 7-3. McNinch led the way offensively with his first career SJHL hat trick. North Stars goaltender Michael Harroch was a difference maker, stopping 47/50 shots.
In game two, North Stars forward Jake Southgate would continue his hot play and score the games first two goals. Jacob Vockler would score his second of the series to cut the deficit to just one after the first period. The North Stars would add two more in the second period from Dace Prymak and Steven Kesserling. Bombers defenceman Rylan Thiessen would add a power play marker late in the third period but it wasn’t enough as the North Stars would take this one 4-2.
The series now shifts back to Flin Flon for game 3 on Tuesday, March 22nd and game 4 on Wednesday, March 23rd.
